Science for Home Schoolers
Looking through a scope

For homeschoolers, science can be one of the hardest subjects to fulfill and keep up

in. Placer Nature Center offers fun, outdoor, hands-on classes to fulfill curricula

needs. Students, of all ages, enjoy the camaraderie of other homeschoolers while

learning through these affordable, experiential programs.

The series of science classes starts February 3rd with “Wings: Birds, Bats & Bugs.”

This program focuses on the adaptations of these winged creatures. Following classes

focus on food chains, the local watershed, natural resource conservation, energy and

a special “Learning from the Land” class that incorporates a restoration project.

The 2+ hour classes easily fit into any budget, ranging from $6-10 per class. A

couple of the classes also offer scholarships. The courses engage students in

learning through real-world, hands-on experiences with a focus on environmental

literacy, science and nature. All our programs are designed to meet the California

Content Standards.

The hands-on investigations and learning helps develop the capacities for

creativity, problem-solving, and emotional and intellectual development. Students

will also learn how humans interact with and are dependent on natural ecosystems.

Students learn to connect their daily actions with the health of the world, which

supports a feeling of personal responsibility and accountability which spills over

into all aspects of students' education.
